A purpose-built water birth space for families in Armadale

In May 2023, Armadale Hospital opened its permanent water birthing suite, which features an Active Birth Pools Venus Pool. This was a big step for the birth unit, as it now gives families access to a dedicated water birth space at their local hospital.

Armadale Hospital has long supported water birth as a choice for labour. Before the Venus Pool, water births used an inflatable pool. Now, the permanent pool has made the space more practical and welcoming for women, midwives, and families. Midwives at Armadale say the Venus Pool is an amazing addition to the unit.

A milestone worth celebrating

A ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrated the suite’s opening and showed how important it is to the hospital and community. Photos from the event show a proud team marking this investment in maternity care.

The photos show more than just a new pool. They capture the maternity unit embracing water birth, with staff, leaders, and supporters all recognising the value of choice during labour and birth.

A beautifully integrated birth room

The Venus Pool fits well in the clinical setting and helps create a calm, supportive atmosphere. The room is bright, open, and thoughtfully arranged, with the pool built into the birth space instead of feeling like an extra feature.

The suite is both functional and welcoming. There is room for care and movement, and the pool provides a softer focus, balancing clinical needs with comfort for mothers.

Why the Venus Pool works so well in hospital settings

The Venus Pool is a mid-size Active Birth Pool made to support both mothers and midwives. Its shape helps with comfort, upright positions, and movement, and the wide rim offers practical support. Active Birth Pools points out its size, design, durability, and improvements in comfort, accessibility, and infection control.

Active Birth Pools focus on safety, hygiene, and ease of use. Their pools are made from seamless Ficore® composite, with smooth shapes, few places for dirt to collect, and features that make cleaning and access easier.

Supporting women’s choice close to home

A key part of the Armadale Hospital story is accessibility. Families can now choose water birth at their local hospital, close to home and loved ones. That makes a real difference.

Having a permanent Venus Pool makes water immersion a more visible and supported choice. It shows that the hospital values natural birth options and women’s choices.

A valuable addition to the birth unit

This new pool shows a real commitment to offering more birth options and making the environment better for women, babies, and staff.

At Armadale Hospital, the Venus Pool has created a dedicated water birth space that is practical, attractive, and ready for daily use. It shows how good design and the right equipment can improve maternity care.
